A user-friendly cloud solution to shape the future of sustainable heating
Yuma and Duurzaam Energie Perspectief
At Duurzaam Energie Perspectief (DEP), part of Alliander, the mission is clear: enable the transition to sustainable heating, one neighbourhood at a time. To support this, DEP created PipeLab — a desktop tool that helps design optimal heating networks tailored to local needs.
But times change. Technology evolves. And a desktop tool no longer fits the future DEP envisions. That’s why they reached out for a partner to help reimagine PipeLab as a cloud-native solution. Enter Yuma. Together, we kicked off the NextPipeLab project — bringing new energy, new possibilities, and a new digital home for the tool.

Co-creating a solution that’s ready for tomorrow
PipeLab already had the intelligence — the calculation models, the insights, the deep technical knowledge. What it needed was a modern foundation and an intuitive interface. Working side-by-side, DEP and Yuma brought it to life.
NextPipeLab was developed in parallel to the existing tool, carefully built to match — and then surpass — the functionality of the original. With new capabilities, a fresh front-end, and a flexible cloud infrastructure, the application is now fit for the future.
A Fixed Team that adapts to DEP’s rhythm
To keep the project agile and future-ready, DEP collaborates with a Core Team from Yuma — a collective of specialists in back-end, front-end, cloud and architecture. The team brings a rich mix of skills, but without the overhead of assembling an in-house department. It also means scaling up or down is easy, making space for creativity, focus and speed.
Room to grow - and connect
Beyond the application itself, DEP and Yuma co-developed a portal — a digital space where multiple tools can live, grow and connect. It’s built for collaboration and for scale, opening doors for new data, new partners, and new ideas.
And the benefits are already here. The user experience is smoother. Access is simpler. Drawing and editing heating networks — previously not possible — is now part of the workflow. And by moving to modern technologies, DEP is no longer limited by outdated systems or scarce expertise.
What's Next — Now that the app is cloud-based, future development is more accessible and sustainable. Yuma continues to handle the back-end development, while DEP focuses on innovation and onboarding new partners into the ecosystem.
Together, they’ve done more than migrate an application. They’ve created a future-proof foundation to build on — for better tools, better connections, and a more sustainable tomorrow.
